Sustainability Concept
SUTAINIBILATY CONCEPT
The Berlin Ramen Festival aims to be more than just a culinary gateway to Japan – we also want to take responsibility. Over the past years, we have seen how much single-use waste a festival can generate, and this year we want to actively change that. That’s why we are introducing a sustainability concept that conserves resources and reduces disposable packaging. Together with you, we want to create a festival that is not only delicious, but also mindful and responsible.
MOTTAINAI
もったいない
As a Japanese food festival, we are guided by a principle deeply rooted in Japanese culture:
Mottainai (もったいない).
Mottainai expresses an attitude of respect and mindfulness towards resources – whether materials, food, time, or energy. Literally translated, it means “What a waste” or “Such a pity.” But it is more than an expression – it is a mindset: valuing what we have, consuming consciously, showing respect.
We want to bring this spirit into our festival and make it a shared experience together with you.
CONCEPT
REUSABLE SYSTEM
The following slides explain how our reusable system works. It's new for everyone so please be kind and patient at the festival.
RECIVING REUSABLE DINING WARE
Your meal will be served in a reusable bowl or snack tray.
You will pay a deposit on top of the price of the food.
Deposit: €2
FRESH WITH EVERY ORDER
You want to try the next dish? Take your used bowl / tray to the choosen stand and receive your new dish in a fresh one.
If you want to pause for a moment and not carry around your dining ware just swap your used bowl / tray for a new one.
RETURN AT THE EXIT
You don't want any more food? Return your bowl at the info stand (near the exit) to get your deposit back.
LOST OR BROKEN ITEMS
Lost or broken bowls / trays can not be refunded. Thanks for your understanding
